Christmas crafting with your Baby, mess-free!

Crafting with your baby or toddler messy and complicated? Not with this festive garland! A bit of paint on paper, cling film over the top and then… rub, squish and explore. No mess, but lots of sensory fun. Once the artwork is dry, cut out Christmas trees and turn them into a garland that brings instant cheer to your home. Easy and festive!

How to make it:

You’ll need:

  • Thick painting paper
  • Acrylic paint
  • Plastic wrap
  • Glitter
  • Pinking shears
  • Ribbon
  • Pencil and eraser
  • Pen for Christmas message

Step 1: Take a large sheet of paper and add blobs of thick paint. Sprinkle glitter over it if you like. Cover the entire sheet with cling film and tape it down with painter’s tape so it doesn’t move. Now for the fun part: sit with your baby and let them explore the squishy paint through the film.

Step 2: Once the paint is well spread, carefully remove the film and let the sheet dry completely. Want neat tree shapes? Draw one on a separate piece of paper and cut it out. Use this as a template to trace multiple trees on the back of the painted sheet. Cut them out with decorative scissors for a playful, “Christmas tree” effect.

Step 3: Want to send the trees as Christmas cards? Write your holiday message on the back and pop them in the mail. Or, make a garland: punch two holes at the top of each tree, thread a festive ribbon through, and ta-da, the most charming Christmas garland of the year.

Crafting a Christmas Angel with your child (perfect to give away)

Crafting with your baby or toddler messy and complicated? Not with this festive garland! A bit of paint on paper, cling film over the top and then… rub, squish and explore. No mess, but lots of sensory fun. Once the artwork is dry, cut out Christmas trees and turn them into a garland that brings instant cheer to your home. Easy and festive!

How to make it:

You’ll need:

  • Christmas bell
  • Christmas ribbon (if it’s not already attached to the bell)
  • Egg cartons
  • White cardboard
  • White acrylic paint and brush
  • Cotton wool (from the drugstore)
  • Hot glue
  • Scissors and/or utility knife`
  • Pencil and eraser

Step 1: Start by drawing wings on thick white paper or cardboard. Cut out the first pair and trace them to make sure all wings are the same size. Then take the middle cones from an egg carton and cut them out. Paint them white, this will be the angel’s body.

Step 2: While the paint dries, decorate the edges of the wings with gold marker and write a little Christmas message. Maybe the recipient’s name, “Merry Christmas” or another sweet message.

Step 3: Next, make two small slits in the angel’s body and glue the wings in place. Decorate the bottom with cotton balls. To finish, glue a bell onto the body and that’s it; your Christmas angel is ready! A jingling little gift, made special by the personal touch.
