Wild weeks

Phew, we’ve been through a few very tough weeks. Leap 4 is now behind us. What a tough time. Lucas’ rhythm was completely upside down, and at the same time, we could set our clock to everything Lucas did in a single day. That was handy! In the middle of the night, he suddenly woke up again to eat, had a hard time falling asleep, and became mega cranky. Especially with me, but fortunately sometimes also with dad.

The nights are the worst

The nights were hardest, but luckily Lucas stays awake only for half an hour, but by the time I fall sleep again, it is soon another hour later. Lucas wanted to have a drink at night around 04:00 a.m., but with 90ml he had enough and then he slept well. During the entire period of the leap, he also didn’t want to fall asleep alone in his crib. He wanted to be close to me in the breastfeeding position. I breastfed Lucas for 4 months, and he still likes to lie in this pose. Sometimes he also wanted his pacifier, too, and so he fell asleep with me. But sometimes he also needed a bit of porridge to fall asleep.

New skills after the fussy phase of leap 4

He also learned so many new things in this leap, which is very nice to see. Suddenly, he starts tossing and turning in bed to shift himself into other positions. Lucas is a belly sleeper and suddenly he was lying on his side or back at night.

Of course, Mom had to take a picture of that. Would that be the reason why I have over 4000 photos on my phone after 6 months?

Super nice I thought at first, because now he can choose how he wants to lie down. But I had misjudged that a bit. When he lies on his back, he dreams much more and wakes up rather quickly. Then I have to put him back on his stomach and he sometimes falls asleep again, but sometimes he also has to eat something. Fortunately, this behavior ceased once the leap had ended.

Sitting up by himself!

He also learned to sit upright during this leap. I could hardly believe my eyes! Lucas is now 6 months old and can sit up all by himself, without help, and of course he now wants nothing more than to play while sitting. And he is now also able to lie down on his belly by himself from a sitting position. And he starts pulling up his knees very often and pushing himself up very high on his arms. Will he be able to crawl after his next leap!? How exciting!

I hope that we have to wait for leap 5 a little bit longer still, because we are rather busy in the coming weeks with the refurbishment of our recently purchased house and the move that is just around the corner.

But unfortunately, we can’t plan for that.

So to be continued… 😉
