Ideal sex positions during pregnancy

Sex during pregnancy… maybe you are very much looking forward to it or should not think about it at all! Sex during pregnancy can and may be normal, but it can sometimes be a challenge with a belly that tends to get in the way. This means that it may be necessary to make some adjustments to your sexual activities so that you can continue with them in a comfortable and safe manner. Fortunately, there are plenty of sex positions that are enjoyable and comfortable during pregnancy.

The benefits of sex during pregnancy

Did you know that sex during pregnancy has many benefits? There may be a number of reasons why sex is discouraged (for example, broken membranes or blood loss), but in most cases sex is very beneficial during pregnancy. Among other things, it reduces stress, increases blood flow (this is good for both mother and baby), strengthens the pelvic floor muscles (helpful during childbirth!) and provides pain relief. Sex and orgasms can help relieve pain by releasing endorphins. This is nice, for example, for back pain and pelvic pain, but also for pain during childbirth!

Which sex positions are ideal during pregnancy?

“Cowgirl” position

In this position, the pregnant woman is on top of her partner to control the depth and speed of penetration. This position is nice because it does not put pressure on the abdomen of the pregnant woman and because she can determine what is comfortable for her. Towards the end of the pregnancy, this position may become less comfortable position because the abdomen becomes heavier and because it becomes more tiring to sit on top.

“Lap dance” seated position

In the seated position, the pregnant woman sits on her partner’s lap facing each other. This position can become a bit more difficult as the abdomen grows bigger, but this position prevents pressure on the abdomen while also offering the possibility of intimate contact.

“Spoon” position

The phenomenon of spooning is well-known. In this sex position, both partners lie on their side with the pregnant woman’s back to her partner. This comfortable position ensures that no pressure is exerted on the abdomen, but intimate contact remains possible.

"Look at your placenta! It's what gave your child life!"

“Face-to-face” position

In this position, too, both partners lie on their sides, but in this instance, they face each other. The pregnant woman positions one leg over her partner’s hip. In this position, too, there is no pressure on the stomach, and the enjoyable thing about this position is that it allows for eye contact and kissing. Both spooning and the side-by-side position are especially enjoyable in the final period of a pregnancy.

Whatever position you choose during pregnancy, always listen to your body and communicate with your partner about your likes and dislikes. As the pregnancy progresses and your abdomen grows bigger, you may have to adjust the positions.
