Taking a leap

About us

In our research that led to the 10 mental leaps of a baby, we discovered that all babies are more prone to cry, cling or to be cranky at certain times. A leap may be stressful at times, but it is positive: it gives your baby the opportunity to learn something new. Learn all about the 10 developmental leaps in The Wonder Weeks app.

Who are we?

Who are we?

The Wonder Weeks stands for helpfulness, flexibility, openness and growth. Our mission is to make parents feel confident when taking the biggest leap in their lives: having a baby! Together we make the information manageable for parents in a friendly and personal way and we do not judge.

We take a candid look at parenting, shed light on all sides and are there for all parents, in every possible form. Because every one of us experiences parenthood differently at any given time. By sharing our experiences openly, we believe that we can help each other and learn from each other.

Our history

Tanzania 1971, where the story of The Wonder Weeks all began … Frans Plooij and his wife Hetty van de Rijt observed chimpanzees with Jane Goodall in Gombe National Park (1971 – 1973). In the years that followed, they came to an important discovery, the occurrence of “regression periods” in chimpanzees, decline in independence.

During follow-up research on mother-baby interaction, such regression periods in the first 20 months of a baby’s life became abundantly clear. The leaps had been discovered!
