The world of events

Leap 4

From week 14, leap 4 starts! The first signals of leap 4 will appear between weeks 14 to 20 after the due date. During leap 3, your baby learned to see several smooth transitions, patterns, or sensations without seeing any connection. But after taking leap 4, your baby will start to understand that together, these form one big event. Learn everything about leap 4 in our Wonder Weeks app.

The fussy phase of leap 4

The fussy phase of leap 4

When leap 4 starts, you will notice that your baby cries more, is clingier and crankier than before. This is the fussy phase of the leap. The fussy phase of leap 4 usually lasts five weeks but could also last anywhere between one to six weeks. Did you know that all you have to do is fill in the due date in our app and you will automatically get a notification when the fussy phase of the leaps begin?

Because this fussy phase lasts longer than the previous ones, you may be concerned about your baby’s progress which seems slower. But don’t worry. From this age on, the new skills are much more complicated to learn. Your baby simply needs more time.

The skills phase of leap 4

The fussy phase of leap 4 will be over by about week 20. Then it is time for the nicest part of the leap: the skills phase. Your baby has gotten used to the new world and will start to explore the new skills that go with it. After leap 4 you could see, for example, that your baby is suddenly able to grab an object or to babble, such as saying “Mommom”, “baba”, “tata”. They will enjoy playing the flying game or prefer children’s songs. Your baby could show you many new skills in this leap.

Babies choose their own skills

The new world your baby is experiencing offers a huge repertoire of new skills. Your baby will choose the skills best suited to them – the ones they want to explore. The fun thing about this is that it says something about your baby’s future personality. You can help them with what they are actually ready to do. Did you know that in our app you can find more than 77 games to stimulate your baby’s skills?

Keep track of leap 4 in our app

Did you know that not only you can tick off the skills of leap 4 in our app, but you can also keep track of them in your personal diary? Some babies will mainly show their motor skills during the leap and others the speck and language skills. Every baby develops in their own way and decides for themselves what he or she wants to develop. And the best bit is that this says something about your baby’s (future) personality!
